Jean D’Amérique

Haiti

Author

The poet, playwright, novelist, and rapper, born in Haiti in 1994 and the recipient of numerous awards, focuses in his work primarily on political violence and the lives of marginalized groups. In 2021, his debut novel, "Soleil à coudre", was published by Actes Sud. The novel is now available in German ("Zerissene Sonne", translated by Rike Bolte). In a compressed style that alternates between deeply poetic and tender, and starkly concise and brutal, Jean D’Amérique tells the story of a childhood denied the right to exist. In addition to his work as a writer, he is the director of the Transe Poétique festival in Port-au-Prince and the poetry magazine Davertige.
